It’s an honor for every singer who gets it (and a nightmare when they screw it up), but last season’s “American Idol” is taking on America’s favorite past time.

American Idol” winner Scotty McCreery has been tapped to perform “The Star-Spangled Banner” before the Game One of the World Series on Wednesday, October 19 on Fox.

“You dream of doing that,” says the 17-year-old reality show winner in USA Today. “When I was growing up, I’d see people sing the national anthem, and I’d sing along with them. That’s the highest stage it gets.”

McCreery’s debut album, “Clear As Day,” is released on Tuesday.

In other music-sporting event news, one report claims Madonna will perform during the Super Bowl XLVI halftime show in Indianapolis on Sunday, February 5, although a spokesperson for the NFL declined to comment.
