There’s one “Dancing with the Stars” contestant every season that looks the part of sexpot, but just can’t quite feel comfortable in that skin. Last season it was Kendra Wilkinson. This season it’s Hope Solo.
But her partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy was determined to bring out a fiery vixen in this soccer star by putting her in a va-va-voom black lacey number and giving her sexy Cha Cha Cha moves to shake her booty to. She may have over-delivered as judge Len Goodman complained that it was too provocative for his taste.
“[It was] one of the hardest things I’ve ever done in my life,” Hope told reporters after Monday’s show. “Say what we rehearsed,” prompted her partner. “I am sexy,” she deadpanned, before joking, “I might start meditating to that.”
When pressed as to why it was so hard, she revealed, “Let’s all be honest here. I know I’m sexy. But I’m sexy in my own world. I like to wear sweats and hooded sweatshirts. My sexiness is different than what the judges want to see.”
“We’re gonna rhinestone some sweats and hooded shirt [next week],” joked Maks. “Yeah, why not?” she responded.
The part of the routine that had everyone abuzz was when she lifted up the side of her skirt a bit. “I never have a say in the choreography,” she offered as an explanation but Maks was quick to correct her. “This [imitating the move] was totally her,” he said. “I just said to do something sexy and she did it.”
As for the tension we’ve seen in some of the rehearsal packages, Hope was quick to claim: “Sometimes I think my communication might come across maybe a little misunderstood. But I’ve said it from day one that I have so much respect for what he does. I never wanted to show disrespect but I truly, truly admire Maks…I have an attitude. It’s what I do. I’m edgy”
Hope and Maks scored a 24 out of 30 for Monday’s Cha Cha Cha, leaving them tied for third place with three other couples: Rob and Cheryl, Kristin and Mark, and David and Kym.
