It’s official: Veteran ABC newsman Ted Koppel is headed to NBC, joining “Rock Center with Brian Williams,” the network announced Thursday.
“A pioneer of broadcast journalism, Ted has touched every major news event spanning nearly five decades, and not only does he bring a tremendous amount of experience to the broadcast, he is a tireless advocate for quality journalism, and is one of our profession’s premiere storytellers,” said NBC News president Steve Capus in a statement.
Rumors of Koppel’s jump to the new primetime magazine hosted by Williams first surfaced in late September in an article from The Wall Street Journal.
“Rock Center with Brian Williams” is enlisting quite a formidable line-up. It was recently announced that Meredith Vieira is returning to NBC as a special correspondent for the show, which will also feature Kate Snow and former CBS newsman Harry Smith.
The WSJ story noted that Koppel’s contributions would be occasional and not as frequent as the other newsers on the team.
“Rock Center” debuts Monday, Oct. 31, at 10/9c on NBC, replacing the canceled “Playboy Club.”
