Al Roker slipped up on Wednesday’s edition of “Today” – when he called one of his costars the wrong name on-air.
Even though Savannah Guthrie just recently joined the “Today” team earlier this summer after Meredith Vieira’s departure, she and Roker have known each for years. But that didn’t stop the famous weatherman from botching her name, something that’s become something of a joke between the two off-camera. But this morning, the gaffe happened live, and Guthrie gleefully called him out on it afterward: “We caught you!”

After Savannah concluded a report from the news desk, she tossed to Roker for the next segment, to which he replied, “Thanks so much, Samantha,” before rolling obliviously into his bit. Savannah caught the goof immediately (notice her faux outraged expression), as did the producers and camera crew, who can be heard cracking up behind the scenes. “Al is always teasing me about my name,” Guthrie said, “and it finally leaked out on-air.”
“I knew you would do it one of these days,” she said.
“And I didn’t want to disappoint you,” Al replied before playfully adding, “I was going to go with Susquehanna.”
