The X Factor” is dropping a bombshell on its contestants and its viewers for its first live show of the season.

Not one, not two, but FIVE singers will be eliminated from the competition Tuesday night, according to news dropped on the show’s Twitter feed Sunday night. With just 17 people left, that’s nearly a third of the cast.

“Breaking news! 5 of the 17 acts will be eliminated by the judges on 10/25. Find who’s out at 8/7C on FOX!” read the show’s Twitter page.

All of the finalists will perform Tuesday night, with the judges cutting five of the singers immediately after, leaving us with the Top 12. Next week, those 12 contestants will perform to grab America’s votes for the first time on the Wednesday, November 2 live episode.

With a brutal cut like that on tap, it looks like it’s more than just “The X Factor” judges who are playing dirty.

“The X Factor” airs Tuesday, October 25 at 8/7c on Fox.
