It’s no secret “Dancing with the Stars” is more of a popularity contest than a dance contest, but could one of this season’s contestants be exploiting someone else’s popularity to gain votes?
That’s what some might think after reality star Kim Kardashian posted a message to her 10.7 million followers on Twitter earlier this week, claiming to have teen sensation Justin Bieber’s phone number and urging fans to call it. In fact, the number she provided was the “DWTS” voting number for her brother Rob Kardashian and his partner Cheryl Burke, and she sent it out right during the “DWTS” viewer voting hour.
“OMG I have @JustinBieber’s phone#!!!! 800 8684302! CALL HIM! He’s taking calls for the next hour!!!” wrote Kim on her Twitter page after Monday’s episode.
Trick or Tweet?
It’s safe to assume Kardashian’s tweet was just a joke and not an evil conspiracy to hijack “Dancing” votes for her baby bro … but that also doesn’t mean at least some of the Bieber Fever Nation didn’t fall for it and give Rob’s votes a little boost. It probably doesn’t matter either since “DWTS” has always been a little mysterious about just how viewer voting (or how many votes are received) really goes down.
Kim and the rest of the Kardashian Klan have a big following on Twitter and the whole family has been on a social media assault in support of Rob and Cheryl. That’s nothing new for “Dancing” stars. But, could it explain how Rob and Cheryl have lasted this long in the competition? Because Rob himself doesn’t have the biggest fan base and he’s performed in the middle of the pack week after week (although he is a better dancer than sister Kim was when she was on the show).
Well, whatever the reason, the couple was indeed spared another week, as it was Chaz Bono and Lacey Schwimmer who got the boot Tuesday night.
