Here’s a good sign that Elisabeth Moss is pretty versatile: As soon as she’s playing Peggy Olson on “Mad Men” this season, she’ll be playing an British Australian cop on the hunt for a pregnant 12-year-old girl.
That’s the plot of “Top of the Lake,” a six-hour BBC Two miniseries, and according to Deadline, Moss is close to signing on as its star. She’ll play a cop searching for the missing pregnant girl, who happens to be the daughter of a local drug kingpin.
The miniseries has a heck of a pedigree, as it will be directed by Jane Campion (“The Piano”) and produced by Emile Sherman and Iain Canning, who brought us last year’s Best Picture Oscar winner, “The King’s Speech.”
Moss will be shooting the mini after she’s done with Season 5 of “Mad Men.” No word on whether or not the mini will come stateside, but with Moss as the lead, its chances of doing so have gone way up.
