Despite the fact that there seems to have been 1,253 Republican presidential debates so far this year, the desire to grill the GOP candidates hasn’t stopped. Now, the producers of “The View” want to move the debate for the daytime hours for the first time.
The New York Post is reporting that the producers of the ABC morning talker are lobbying the GOP to have a debate on their show, during the regular 11 am timeslot. None of the candidates’ camps have responded so far — maybe they’re afraid of the wrath of Whoopi — and have expressed in recent days that they’re already suffering under the strain of a lot of scheduled debates. The Post article reports that the seven major candidates are scheduled to have fifteen debates from now until January; four will take place over the next two weeks.
Still, it would be a good idea for Cain, Romney, Perry and company to come on the set of “The View,” and not just because they’ll be exposed to a different audience than who has watched all of the primetime debates. Except for Barbara Walters, the hosts are coming from less of a journalism perspective and more of a layman’s perspective — with their political ideologies in full view. It would make for great TV, because even though Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar may hammer them with questions from their liberal perspective, it’s not like the more conservative Elisabeth Hasselbeck is going to take it easy on them (she wants to be taken seriously, after all).
Either way, it’ll be a heck of a lot more entertaining than just watching Wolf Blitzer ask them questions once again. Let’s see if the candidates are brave enough to say yes.
