ABC and NBC comedies brought out the big guns Wednesday night with a parade of top-tier guest stars. On “Up All Night,” we were introduced to Reagan’s (Christina Applegate) annoying psychoanalyst parents, played by Blythe Danner and Richard Schiff. “Modern Family” saw the return of Chazz Palminteri as Jay’s friend Shorty, and his cleavage-heavy girlfriend Darlene, played by Jennifer Tilly. Leslie Mann also made an appearance as the beard in Cam’s (Eric Stonestreet) plot to prove he could “play straight” and pick up hot chicks. As for the best use of irony, the award goes to “Happy Endings,” which gave us the joyous – albeit brief – return of “Wonder Years” star Fred Savage and a longer cameo by sportscaster Brent Musburger. Below, check out our favorite moments from last night’s stuntcasting-palooza.
“Up All Night”
Moment: Reagan’s attempt to “treasure” her mother at a book party goes horribly, horribly wrong.

Moment: Cam comes out to the hot girl he tried to pick up at the bar (Mann), only to discover she actually knows about his sexual orientation. In an attempt to keep Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) fooled, she pretends to have fallen for Cam, resulting in a very long, very sensuous Mann-on-Cam kiss.
Moment: Alex (Elisha Cuthbert) starts dating Liam (Josh Casaubon), a nice enough dude who goes overboard with elaborate dates. When she just wants to have a quiet night at home watching “The Princess Bride,” leave it to Liam to bring in Fred Savage for color commentary. Bonus points for the Kirk Cameron diss! (Sidenote: Savage also directed the episode.)
