UPDATED: Dance pro Derek Hough says the story about bad blood between him and fellow “Dancing With the Stars” instructor Maksim Chmerkovskiy is not true. “Our relationship is pretty similar to how it’s always been,” Hough told “Access Hollywood,” according to this story. “We’ve known each other for many, many years. This is a television show and I understand that people want to see drama where there’s not.” Well, it sure seemed last week like the two have a “dramatic” rivalry under way on “DWTS” — please read on:

PREVIOUSLY: We’re not surprised that some of the dance pros on “Dancing With the Stars” are rivals, but now sources are saying a “rivalry” between Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Derek Hough has evolved into “hatred.”

The accusation of very bad blood between the two headstrong hoofers is leveled in this story by Us magazine.

The story quotes an unnamed source, an “insider,” who says flatly: “They hate each other.” The latest flare-up between the two came after Maks’ infamous on-air meltdown last week, when he lashed out at head judge Len Goodman and declared that “Dancing with the Stars” was “MY show.”

In an interview with Us, Hough laughed at that assertion. “I had a laugh about that [comment],” the mag quotes Hough as saying. “I was looking at the plaque upstairs and . . . well, never mind.” The plaque displays a list of “DWTS” winners through the years. Hough appears on it three times, while Maksim has yet to win even once.

Another reason the two allegedly detest each other, according to Us: Derek’s sister and fellow “DWTS” dance pro, Julianne, once dated Maks, and the two had a messy break-up.

A new episode of “Dancing With the Stars” airs Monday night (Nov. 7), starting at 8/7c on ABC.
