You know a show is in a good position on a network when the creator asks for an extra episode to wrap up a season … and he gets it. That’s the position Kurt Sutter was in when he asked the powers that be at FX if they could extend the fourth season of “Sons of Anarchy” to a 14th episode. Considering the audience the show draws, it wasn’t hard for FX to say yes.

FX announced the one-episode extension in a press release, noting that the fourth season finale will now air on December 6 at 10 pm ET/PT. “Kurt asked us to consider adding an extra episode to fully close this current chapter of the Sons saga,” FX exec Nick Grad said in the release. “By adding the extra episode, it wraps up a magnificent season in extraordinary fashion. This is a real bonus for fans of the series.”

The show has been drawing well for FX, with 5.71 million viewers in the key demo over the week’s multiple airings, according to the network.
