The cushiest job on late night television has to be Geoff Peterson‘s. He’s Craig Ferguson‘s robot skeleton sidekick on “The Late Late Show,” and somehow he gets to take two weeks off while Ferguson and company still have to toil away in their tiny, band-less studio. In the meantime, Geoff has been voiced by a number of guests, with some funny results.
Last week, Geoff was voiced by Louie Anderson, Dominic Monaghan, Alfred Molina, Tom Lennon and Larry King. Everyone brought their own vibe to Geoff, but King, as you’d expect, was the funniest, mainly due to King’s hilarious propensity to filibuster. Not really realizing that he was playing a character that is there to riff with Craig, King would talk as if he was the one Craig was talking to, and he felt free to put his interviewer hat on, as he did when he started asking guest Molly Shannon questions during her segment.
This week’s guest voices are pretty interesting: Lauren Graham, Paula Poundstone, Angela Kinsey, Jason Schwartzman and Shadoe Stevens (to the kids out there: he was on the ’80s version of “Hollywood Squares” and he’s also Ferguson’s announcer). We’re looking forward to hearing Graham’s loopiness coming out of Geoff’s mouth, if only because it’s Lauren Graham. She could be reading a take-out menu and make it funny…
