Ricky Gervais is ready for a three-peat.

Today, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association confirmed what everyone has pretty much suspected for weeks: Gervais will be back to host the Golden Globes in January.

Over the summer, Gervais hinted at a possible return, despite the controversy over his offending humor at last year’s ceremony, wherein he alienated many of the stars being celebrated.

“I love NBC and I love the fact that they have stuck with me through it all,” Gervais said in August. When questioned by interviewer Richard Bacon whether he’d consider returning, he responded, “It’s a second encore. Don’t do a second encore. I don’t think I should do it. What am I going back as?”

Last week, Gervais also offered to host the Oscars following Eddie Murphy’s exit. (The role role was soon filled by Billy Crystal.)

Gervais’ latest HBO project, “Life’s Too Short,” is slated to premiere in 2012. The 69th Golden Globes will air Jan. 15 on NBC.
