Regis Philbin brought his “farewell” tour to David Letterman’s “Late Show” and received several gifts — a special “Top Ten” list in his honor and a bright red Vespa motor scooter.
He also sought another passionate kiss from Dave — like the one Dave planted right on Regis’ lips when Dave appeared on “Live with Regis and Kelly” on Wednesday — but on his own show, Dave was more prudish.
“I enjoyed every second of it,” Letterman said of the kiss, after videotape of the smooch was shown on “Late Show” Thursday night. “I’d do it again in a heartbeat.”
Earlier, Dave devoted the evening’s “Top Ten” to Regis with “The Top Ten Things We’re Going to Miss About Regis.” Among them:
“No. 10: Smell of Ben-Gay and Captain Morgan!”
“No. 8: His stories about baby-sitting for Knute Rockne!”
And a Jay Leno reference: “No. 3: His antique cars and his enormous chin!”
Later, Dave presented Regis with his new Vespa and we immediately wondered how this 80-year-old man (Regis, not Dave), spry as he might be, would be able to tool around in Manhattan traffic on a scooter without getting himself killed.
We got our answer a few minutes later, though, when Regis was seen scootering away from the Ed Sullivan Theater.
