On yesterday’s “Ellen,” Mark Kelly and his daughters Claire and Claudia came on to talk about the new book Kelly wrote with his wife Gabrielle Giffords, and her continuing recovery from the injuries she suffered in a January shooting.

During the interview, Ellen DeGeneres asked the girls about what their relationship was like with their stepmother before the shooting. They didn’t hesitate to say things were frosty, to say the least, which had stressed Kelly out, but Giffords felt was the standard when a parent marries someone new. Needless to say, they’re inspired by Gabby these days, and talk about her in glowing terms.
