Giuliana Rancic appeared with her husband Bill on the “Today” show this morning to announce that she has decided to aggressively treat her breast cancer via a double mastectomy. Previously, Rancic had been on the show to announce that she had breast cancer; however, a double lumpectomy didn’t clear enough of the cancer to satisfy her doctors.
In the interview with Ann Curry, Rancic said that she had the option of getting another lumpectomy, but decided on the more radical treatment because she not only felt it was her best chance to eradicate the cancer for good; the chances of the cancer coming back drop to one percent with the mastectomy. Also, she felt this treatment would allow the couple to resume their quest to have children much sooner.
“In the end, all it came down to was just choosing to live and not looking over my shoulder for the rest of my life,” Rancic told Curry.
