We are going on the record right now and saying that we miss Steve Carell on “The Office.” We just miss the presence he brought to that show. But fans of Carell should be happy to hear that he’ll be a guest voice on “The Simpsons” next season, playing mobster Fat Tony’s accountant.
According to the EW.com report, the character, Dan Gillick, will be pressed into duty as a replacement for Tony (Joe Mantegna) when the mobster is called for jury duty. When Gillick is asked to do his mobsterly duties, however, he’s surprised at just how much he’s enjoying all the killing. “The line between Ivy League MBA and ruthless murderer is a very thin one,” executive producer Al Jean told EW.
As with most “Simpsons” guest voice announcements, the time lag between recording and airtime is tremendous, but at least we’ll be able to hear Carell back on TV at some point in the near future. What we wonder is why he didn’t do this sooner?
Watch a scene from Carell’s “Office” goodbye and try not to get misty-eyed:
