This year has been a great year for comedy, and Russell Brand has been riding the wave right along with the likes of Louis C.K. And now, he’s joining Louie on FX for six late night specials, the network announced today.
These six half-hour specials will be shot in front of a studio audience and will concentrate heavily on Brand’s interaction with the crowd as well as his “unvarnished, unfiltered take on current events, politics and pop culture,” said a press release.
As usual, Brand was his usual cheeky self when he was quoted in that same release. “I am so excited I’m on the point of climax, in fact I will put the ‘O’ into FX, which spells FOX, which is actually the channel’s real name,” he said. “That’s the only thing that worries me about all this to be honest. At least I’ll be able to have a Christmas drink with Bill O’Reilly.”
Whether people will be able to tolerate a full half-hour of Brand’s brand of “oops, did I say that?” humor is anyone’s guess. We’d rather see his wife, Katy Perry, spend a half hour doing her Russell Brand impression, but that’s just us.
