Giuliana Rancic returned to the set of “Today” Friday morning with husband Bill, to share with viewers how her battle with breast cancer was faring. The E! News host returned to work on Tuesday, just weeks after undergoing a double mastectomy.
In an interview with Matt Lauer, Bill noted that although his wife was “cracking jokes” with the hospital staff before the procedure, she knew the process was going to be tough.
“I knew this was going to be a tough surgery. I in no way want to minimize it,” added Giuliana. “Up until a week and a half ago, it was hell. It was horrible.”
Lauer asked about her mobility.
“Not a ton,” she responded. “I realized on our flight last night that I can’t really turn much to put my seatbelt on, Bill still has to help me and has to help me get in and out of bed. I can’t put my arms above my head, and people have to help me get dressed. It’s very limited mobility, it’s a lot of pain.”
Rancic first revealed the cancer diagnosis back in October, and has made an effort to share each step of her treatment with the public in an effort to raise awareness and inspire others.
“If you can save one life through this process, you’ve turned a negative into a positive,” said Bill.
The couple will be able to move past a difficult 2011 when they help ring in the New Year as part of NBC’s telecast from Times Square.
