Oprah Winfrey will make an appearance on “CBS This Morning” when the time is right, Gayle King says.
King, who began co-hosting the revamped morning show on Monday, spoke to reporters via satellite in New York at a TCA panel for “This Morning” in Pasadena on Wednesday.
“We’re not stupid with two o’s,” King joked when one reporter asked if her best friend would ever be interviewed on the show. “Wherever Oprah goes, she’s a good guest,” King said. ‘The truth is, we’ll have her on when there’s a reason to have her on. She will certainly be here.”
Charlie Rose, who joined King on the panel with co-host Erica Hill and executive producer Chris Licht, joked that he and Hill are racing to book Oprah on their own. “Erika and I are trying to get her here first for an interview that matters,” he said.
Until that day comes, King has some other dream guests in mind. “I want Jay-Z and Beyonce and Baby Blue,” she said, referring to the couple’s newborn, Blue Ivy. “Or Prince William and Kate,” she added. When questioned by one journalist whether interviews with celebrities were “hard-hitting” enough for a morning news program, King quickly responded, “We are not above doing any story. We are doing news that people are interested in hearing about. And who doesn’t want to hear about Jay-Z and Beyonce?”
