‘Nurse Jackie,’ ‘Big C,’ ‘Borgias’ to Return on April 8: Showtime Exec

Showtime is presenting its shows this morning at the Television Critics Association press tour, and its entertainment president, David Nevins, took to the stage with an announcement: three of its hits will be returning on April 8.

“Nurse Jackie,” “The Big C,” and “The Borgias” will all premiere on Sunday, April 8, with “Jackie” leading the night at 9 pm Eastern, “Big C” following at 9:30, and “Borgias” finishing the night at 10.

The fourth season of “Jackie,” according to Nevins, is about consequences. “I wanted to see her start facing the consequences of her actions. I think it’s a really interesting season. She’s abs not in the same place she’s been last two seasons. The feel of the eps are slightly tweaked, puts Jackie (Edie Falco) in an interesting place.” Nevins said that “there’s still life” in the show beyond a fourth season, contrary to previous reports that this season would be the show’s last.

In other Showtime news:

“Homeland” season two could be even more interesting than season one. Nevins has gotten some preliminary info about season two of his much talked-about drama, and he gave critics a cryptic preview. “Brody (Damian Lewis) and Carrie (Claire Danes) have only just begun and there’s a lot unresolved. They’ve barely…  I’ll leave it at that.”

There will be nine episodes of “Episodes” this year, and the network will put a huge marketing push behind it. “The show’s much more (of an) ensemble, has many more things cooking in it. I didn’t think it would get embraced so quickly (with Emmy and Golden Globe nominations), and the audience just beginning to embrace what it is.”

On whether the main characters in his comedies are unlikable: “I dispute the fact that our lead characters are unlikable. We don’t show totally clean pristine characters. I think people come to us looking for challenging characters and situations. If you really don’t like our characters, you won’t like our shows. We think about it. Our goal is not unlikability. The enemy is boredom and predictability. If you’re finding it predictable, then it’s time to change. “
