Ryan Murphy has strayed so far from his initial no-stunt-casting-in-season-3 policy that at this point it’s best just to accept the practice and reserve the right to be grumpy only when he casts no-talent hacks. (Who knew NeNe would not incur such grouchiness?)
Happily, the newest additions to the parade of guest stars inspire nothing but joy to fans of stage and screen. TVLine reports that Brian Stokes Mitchell and Jeff Goldblum have been cast as Mr. and Mr. Berry, Rachel’s dads.
Lea Michele superfans will be thrilled by her reunion with fellow “Ragtime” original Broadway cast member BSM, who has numerous theatre nods and wins, and whose baritone is so powerful it will get you pregnant (if you’re into that kind of thing).
And Lea Michele haters will be able to say, “Of course her dad’s The Fly.”
Actually, the quirky Goldblum happens to be a fine jazz pianist, and word is the pair will be performing on the show. Sounds like Murphy and Co. have learned from the notorious Garber-Monk Incident of ’09, in which B’way vets Victor Garber and Debra Monk were cast as Schue’s parents (yay!) yet not invited to sing (boo!).
Look for the duo to appear for the first time in next month’s Valentine’s Day episode.
