Tom Selleck is about to turn 67, and the Mustachioed One is busier than ever. Not only is he the star of CBS’s Friday hit “Blue Bloods,” but he has managed to establish a movie franchise in the Jesse Stone series. CBS is so happy with Selleck that they’re going to air the eighth movie in the Stone series, “Jesse Stone: Benefit of the Doubt” on May 20.
In the press release announcing the air date, the plot of the movie is laid out: “Jesse finds himself struggling to get his job back as the Paradise police chief, and he is forced to rely on his cop intuition to sort through a maze of misleading clues and hidden meanings as he attempts to solve a shocking and horrifying mob-related double homicide.”
Notable returnees from the series are Kathy Baker and William Devane. The movie will also star Robert Carradine.
It’s not very often that an actor gets to create more than one successful franchise on the small screen, and now it seems like Selleck is creating three, between Stone, Thomas Magnum and his “Blue Bloods” character, Frank Reagan. It’s pretty safe to say that the affable Selleck has reached icon status, and he’s taking advantage of being a hot name right now. Let’s hope he’ll keep chugging along as long as he wants to.
