When I started writing this column, there were eight daytime soaps on the air. There was more than enough news and programming to merit three columns a week. Now that there are only four, there is simply not enough material for a thrice weekly column. So, starting this week, Deep Soap will only be published on Fridays. I will still cover breaking soap news when it happens.
On a separate note, congratulations to “General Hospital’s” directing team for winning the DGA award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Daytime Serials. GH won for Luke’s intervention, proving that, even when the show is in a creative slump, it’s still capable of producing the big, standalone episodes that win awards. According to Deadline, director William Ludel acceptance speech was poignant: “I’ve won two of these before, but this one means the most because my guess is we won’t be around much longer… It’s just the reality.”
