For two people who are music legends, it seems like Madonna and Elton John can’t help but snipe at each other, even though they seem to respect each other’s various successes. Maybe they just like playing a fun game of cat-and-mouse.
After making a prediction before the Golden Globes that Madonna has no shot of winning for best original song against his tune from “Gnomeo and Juliet,” accompanied by the Facebook rant his husband, David Furnish, let loose after Madge took the prize, you’d think Elton would keep quiet for the time being. But in the clip from “Good Morning America” (above), John takes another shot at Ms. Ciccone, while slamming the whole idea of Super Bowl halftime shows in the process.
In the interview, Chris Connelly interviews John on the set of the Super Bowl ad he’s shooting for Pepsi along with “X Factor” winner Melanie Amaro. And while he has no problem doing an ad for the game — and will root hard for the Patriots, owned by his friend Robert Kraft — he told Connelly he’ll never do a Supe halftime show. Why? Because he’s never seen a good one.
So what is his advice for Madonna as she gets ready to take the stage in Indianapolis this Sunday? “Make sure you lip-synch good.”
Can’t these senior music titans get along? If Madge and Elton can’t make it work, then how will Katy Perry and Lady Gaga ever learn to co-exist?
