Barbara Walters and Oprah Winfrey are reportedly battling it out to conduct the first U.S. TV interview with Britain’s most famous celebrity in-law, Pippa Middleton.

“Pippa” (it’s a nickname stemming from her real name “Philippa”), 28, is the younger sister of Kate Middleton, better known as Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge, wife of Prince William, heir to the British throne. She achieved fame by serving as Maid of Honour (that’s how they spell “honor” over there) in her sister’s wedding and for looking really good while doing so.

The British tabloid press has nicknamed Pippa “Her Royal Hotness” and now chronicles her every move.

But she hasn’t really caught on as a celebrity superstar here in the U.S. But now, Walters and Winfrey apparently sense an opportunity to interview Her Royal Hotness because she will soon have a book coming out. It’s not even a personal book such as a memoir or autobiography or tell-all about the royal family. It’s a book about how to plan a party, according to this story in the New York Post. But there will be a publicity campaign as part of the book’s roll-out, and Walters and Winfrey are both vying to be a part of it.

Which of these TV heavyweights has the inside track? Our take: Well, if it were up to us, it could come down to potential ratings or, to put it another way, which of these two can give Pippa the maximum exposure on TV. And if that’s the benchmark, the interview would have to go to Walters. It’s really a matter of comparing ABC to Oprah’s OWN. To put it bluntly, ABC can offer a much bigger audience than OWN can. My money’s on Walters.

Stay tuned.
