HBO has just released the first full trailer for “Game Change.” What’s most noticeable in the teaser (apart from Julianne Moore’s spot-on impersonation of Sarah Palin) is its less-than-favorable depiction of the former Governor of Alaska – who is seen unraveling on the 2008 campaign trail.
Based on the bestselling book by political journalists Mark Halperin and John Heilemann, the HBO film chronicles John McCain’s (Ed Harris) bid for Presidency, with a sharp focus on Palin and her apparent rebellion against campaign authorities.
“There was a tremendous amount of pressure [on Palin],” Moore told reporters at TCA in January. “So what does that do to someone psychologically?”
Moore called the experience of embodying Palin – who declined to participate in the film – “daunting.”
“Suddenly here was this working class mother who popped out and seemed to be able to command the world, but of course upon further inspection, she was clearly not prepared,” Moore said. “She didn’t necessarily have the experience necessary to lead our country, and that’s what we were attempting to characterize.”
“Game Change” premieres Saturday, March 10 on HBO.
