Channing Tatum is one of the more head-scratching choices to host “Saturday Night Live” in quite a long time. Sure, he’s a handsome guy, and he’s good at playing soldiers of one sort or another (“G.I. Joe,” “Dear John”), and he’ll be in the upcoming big-screen remake of “21 Jump Street.” But he’s not exactly universally known.
Thankfully, the writers at “SNL” know this, and in their promos for this week’s episode, they have Fred Armisen mispronouncing Tatum’s name and trying to figure out whether he’s the love child of Stockard Channing and Tatum O’Neal. He even makes a mistake with the dancing-related movie he was in (for the record, it’s “Step Up”). Let’s hope that Tatum makes up for his lack of name recognition with a funny performance. The funny hosts are usually the ones that are the most unexpected, right?
