Shrewd Suzanne Somers engineered a reunion with her estranged “Three’s Company” co-star Joyce DeWitt that’s drawing a motherlode of attention — and traffic — to Somers’ own Web site.
That’s the thing about Suzanne: Ever since she catapulted to stardom as ditzy Chrissy Snow in the first five seasons of “Three’s Company” (starting in 1977), she’s been anything but ditzy as a tireless businesswoman, diet-book author and talk-show star (as a guest). She now has a talk show on her own Web site called “Breaking Through” and the show just got a whole lot o’ publicity with this reunion with DeWitt.
Apparently, DeWitt, 62, and Somers, 65, have been estranged for 30 years. We seem to remember this, though you will hopefully please forgive us if we’d forgotten all about it. Nevertheless, enough people seem to be interested in this situation that their reunion is being reported all over the place — and the video viewed thousands of times on YouTube and also on Suzanne’s own site, SuzanneSomers.com.
In their conversation, they got caught up on the health and whereabouts of various family members and also talked about their late co-star, beloved comic actor John Ritter.
What were these two feuding about for all these years? Well, the issue at hand is a very old one — reportedly it was Suzanne’s salary dispute with the producers of “Three’s Company” in 1981 when she demanded a much higher salary than her co-stars. It was a miscalculation that got her replaced on the show (by Jennilee Harrison). Apparently, Somers’ antics didn’t sit well with DeWitt (and Ritter) because she almost sank the show entirely.
