‘White Collar’ Star Matt Bomer Publicly Comes Out at Award Ceremony

Matt Bomer (USA)

Matt Bomer, who stars as the smooth semi-reformed con artist Neal Caffrey in USA’s “White Collar,” has been one of those celebrities who has had rumors about his sexuality swirling around him for some time, but he’s never addressed them, mainly because he wanted to keep his personal life private. But over the weekend, he decided to broach the topic, using his acceptance speech for a humanitarian award to publicly thank his partner, Simon Halls, for the first time.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bomer was at the Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards, accepting an award for his activism in the fight against AIDS and HIV, and he mentioned in his speech that his research for a role the Ryan Murphy-helmed screen adaptation of the Broadway play “The Normal Heart” really opened his eyes to how people with the disease fared in its early days. He also thanked the person who presented him the award, “White Collar” co-star Diahann Carroll, for being an inspiration to him.

He then thanked his family, including Halls and their three children, for “teaching me what unconditional love is. You will always be my proudest accomplishment.”

There you go, no muss, no fuss, and all the rumors are put to rest. Hopefully, we’re getting to the point where announcements like this are no longer news, but at least  it’s good to hear that Bomer is very happy in his personal life. Now we can go on and enjoy him in “White Collar” and his other projects, which includes his role as the older brother of Blaine (Darren Criss) on “Glee.”
