TBS Renews ‘Conan’ Through Mid-2014

Conan O'Brien

Despite ratings that have been less than impressive, TBS seems to like being on Team Coco, which is why the network just announced that they are extending “Conan” through April of 2014. The network is “demonstrating the network’s solid commitment to the Emmy-nominated show and its host, Conan O’Brien,” they said in a press release.

TBS has said in the past that, because of the show’s audience draw in the all-important 18-49 demo, its great numbers in the 18-34 demo and the relatively young average age of the audience, they have not been concerned about the fact that “Conan” consistently comes in behind “The Daily Show” and “Chelsea Lately.” The show gets a lot of DVR and online eyeballs, says the network, and that matters to them; in fact, they canceled “Lopez Tonight” in part  because it didn’t have the same online audience Conan has pulled.

According to the press release, the show’s audience has been growing for three consecutive months, which could be attributable to the strong lead-in it gets twice per week with reruns “The Big Bang Theory”.

We’re just happy to see that Conan and company have found a home, especially after 2009-10’s Second Late Night War. Maybe now he can use this security to up his game and produce a show that goes at least a little beyond the same old late night talk show conventions. We can hope, right?
