Yes, it seems like we’re getting a lot of Jennifer Aniston news today, but that’s mainly because she’s promoting the movie “Wanderlust,” a role she seems to be particularly proud of, so she’s doing a lot of interviews. One of the interviews was for The Hollywood Reporter, and as with anything involving one of the stars of “Friends,” the inevitable talk of some sort of reunion came up.
Aniston really can’t see it, at least on the big screen, which has become the latest version of the reunion meme that has been asked of the show’s stars. “I can’t imagine what that would be. It’s not normal. ‘Friends’ is in your living room; ‘Friends’ is not in a movie theater. It doesn’t make sense to me. I think it would be going against its authentic self,” she told the magazine.
But it’s not like the show has been far from her mind, given the fact that it launched her to über-stardom. When asked about how she envisioned what the characters of Ross and Rachel would be doing today, eight years after the show ended, she was very upbeat about their prospects.
“They’re absolutely, 100 percent together. They have more kids!” she said. “He’s probably still working, and hopefully they’re still hanging out somewhere. It would be really upsetting if they weren’t; it would bum me out.”
She’d “never say never” to a return to series TV — a good position to have, given how many women in their 40s have been finding juicier roles on TV than in movies — but the most sure way to draw her back would just be to restart “Friends” again, because she had so much fun doing the show. “It would probably take those five actors and be somewhere where we left off.”
You know, this could happen somewhere down the line. If the cast of “Seinfeld” managed to reunite for a season of “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” why can’t a season of Matt LeBlanc‘s “Episodes” revolve around a “Friends” reunion? That would be the best way to do it without it seeming sad.
