We may be at the height of the TV season, but in TV Land, they’re looking ahead to next season’s prospective hits (and misses) as pilot season is officially underway. And a flurry of big names are in play as the networks greenlight a slew of projects.
Here’s a round-up of the latest pilot casting news:
TALENT: Cuba Gooding, Jr.
PROJECT: “Guilty,” a legal drama from Greg Berlanti in which Gooding will play a defense attorney stripped of his right to practice law who uses unconventional methods to solve cases on the sly. Eva Amurri Martino plays his attorney-sidekick.
TALENT: George Lopez
PROJECT: Lopez will star in and produce a sitcom about a Latino family in an initial 10-episode deal.
TALENT: Johnny Lee Miller, Lucy Liu
PROJECT: “Elementary,” CBS’s update of “Sherlock Holmes,” with Miller as Sherlock, a recovering addict and consultant for the NYPD, and in a modern twist, Liu as Watson, a former surgeon who watches after Holmes.
TALENT: F. Murray Abraham
PROJECT: ABC’s version of “Beauty and the Beast” (there are two in the works; The CW is also remaking the fairytale), with Abraham as a “duplicitous” chancellor to the Emperor.
TALENT: David Eigenberg (“Sex and the City”)
PROJECT: The NBC drama “Chicago Fire,” with Eigenberg as a married veteran firefighter fallen on tough times who moves in with his in-laws.
TALENT: Dennis Quaid, Michael Chiklis
PROJECT: From “Goodfellas” writer Nicholas Pileggi, “Ralph Lamb” is a sixties gangster drama set in Vegas about the real-life longest-serving sheriff of Clark County, Nev. For more on “Lamb,” click here.
TALENT: Lily Tomlin
PROJECT: “Malibu Country,” Reba McIntyre’s return to sitcom, in which she plays a down-and-out country singer trying to reignite her career, with Tomlin cast as Reba’s mother.
TALENT: Martin Lawrence
PROJECT: An untitled comedy in which Lawrence will play a widowed father of two now in his forties who goes to the police academy to become a cop.
TALENT: Bill Pullman, Brittany Snow
PROJECT: “1600 Penn,” a comedy about a dysfunctional family living in the White House, with Pullman as the President and Snow as his perfectionist First Daughter.
TALENT: Rachel Dratch
PROJECT: “Lady Friends,” a comedy about two female friends living very different lives who can’t live without each other.
TALENT: Mira Sorvino
PROJECT: “Trooper,” a drama from Jerry Bruckheimer about a no-nonsense mom who becomes a New York state trooper.
TALENT: Terry O’Quinn, Dave Annable
PROJECT: “666 Park Avenue,” a supernatural thriller about a young couple who agree to manage a NYC apartment building…that turns out to be a haunted house.
TALENT: Abby Elliott (“Saturday Night Live”)
PROJECT: “Ben Fox is My Manny,” in which Elliott is expected to play an uptight single mother whose laid-back brother moves in with her.
TALENT: Anthony LaPaglia, Emilie De Ravin (“Lost”), Ashley Greene (“Twilight”)
PROJECT: “Americana,” a soapy drama about an iconic fashion family.
