Former “Survivor” contestant Ethan Zohn is once again looking to come out a winner, this time grabbing something more valuable than a million dollars. On Wednesday, Zohn underwent his second stem-cell transplant with in the hope of finally ending his continued battle with cancer.
On Wednesday, he tweeted: “Today I leap into a healthy new body. Today is the start of the rest of my life. Thank You to my bro Lee & all who have supported me. Love!”
The news was confirmed by fellow-“Survivor” winner,”Amazing Race” teammate and girlfriend Jenna Morasca, who wrote “Today @EthanZohn gets new stem cells & new cancer free life FOREVER! And we get our lives back. Send positive healing vibes #getbetterethan”
Morasca also confirmed to People magazine that the reality star was in positive spirits following the procedure.
“Ethan asked the doctor what was the record time for getting out of here, so he wants to beat that … His doctor said there was no prize, and Ethan said, ‘Yes, there is. You’re going to tell the other patients that I made it out in three weeks,'” she said to the magazine.
Zohn is fighting the disease for the second time, having first been diagnosed with CD20-positive Hodgkin’s lymphoma in May 2009. After seemingly besting the illness via chemotherapy and sending it into remission, doctors once again detected cancer cells lat November, this time in his lung.
“Ethan asked the doctor what was the record time for getting out of here, so he wants to beat that,” Morassca said in the interview. “His doctor said there was no prize, and Ethan said, ‘Yes, there is. You’re going to tell the other patients that I made it out in three weeks.'”
