Rush Limbaugh isn’t the only one getting into hot water for remarks towards Georgetown law student Sandra Fluke. Now Patricia Heaton of ABC’s “The Middle” has gotten heat for some tweets she made directed at the activist, who testified in front of Congress in support of a law that compels institutions like Georgetown to pay for contraception as part of its health coverage, even if it goes against the institution’s beliefs.
According to FishbowlLA, Heaton, who has never been shy to voice her conservative views, tweeted statements like this: “G -Gal: you’ve given yer folks great gift for Mother’s/Father’s Day! Got up in front of whole world & said I’m having tons of sex- pay 4 it!” and “If every Tweaton sent Georgetown Gal one condom, her parents wouldn’t have to cancel basic cable, & she would never reproduce – sound good?”
At a certain point, Heaton had taken her entire Twitter account down, then brought it back up, according to The Hollywood Reporter, tweeting her regret for making such strong statements, even as she stood behind the convictions about Fluke’s stance. “I apologized to Ms Fluke last week. I may not agree with her views but I didn’t treat her with respect and I’m sorry. I was wrong. Mea Culpa.”
This could have been a case of network pressure, or it could have just been plain guilt — who among us hasn’t put something on Twitter or Facebook that we decided to take back? Either way, her apology at least sounded a heck of a lot more sincere than the half-hearted one Limbaugh gave over the weekend, and he called her a “slut.”
