The Wednesday Buzz: Katy Perry on ‘Raising Hope’ and More

In order to attract some attention to its temporary move into “Glee’s” timeslot, “Raising Hope” called on a big name to guest star: Katy Perry. The pop star played a nutty, hair-lipped prison guard who claims that she was best friends with Sabrina (Shannon Woodward) when they were in a Little Beavers scout troop together, and that Sabrina abandoned her when the cheerleading squad came calling.

Just as we saw in her guest spot on “How I Met Your Mother” last season, Perry was game, even if she’s not exactly the most subtle actress out there. When she’s given over-the-top roles like this, though, she’s fine, even if it’s on the silly side of fine. We especially found it funny when, in the scene above, she instructs Sabrina to sell cookies to a bunch of male prisoners while wearing a way-too-small Beavers uniform. The line Katy gives isn’t exactly clever, but the sight of Sabrina pulling on that uniform generated the biggest laugh of the night.
