UPDATE: In spite of the health scare, Phillip Phillips will be part of tonight’s show, according to TMZ. His father told the site that Phillips is determined to continue his journey on the series and that he has been suffering from kidney stones since October.

PREVIOUSLY: Phillip Phillips, who is currently a contestant on “American Idol,” has been hospitalized, says the gossip site TMZ. Phillips, who is one of the few contestants who performs with a guitar, was sent to the hospital after complaining of severe stomach pains.

According to TMZ’s sources, Phillips might have gallstones, and he’s been hospitalized for a similar problem in the recent past. If that’s the case, and he needs surgery, his future on the show may be in doubt.

This isn’t the first time an “Idol” contestant has been sent to the hospital during the competition; last season, Casey Abrams had stomach pains and went to the hospital right before the semi-finals.
