In some “on the nose” casting news, TVLine is reporting that Thomas Calabro, who played the evil doctor Michael Mancini on both versions of “Melrose Place,” will take a guest turn on “Glee” as — wait for it — the estranged father of Puck (Mark Salling).
Seems like a fitting role for Calabro, right? Puck’s been an underachiever at best, a petty criminal at worst. Either way, he’s been aching for a father figure in his life ever since his dad left him and his mom (Gina Hecht) high and dry. Calabro knows how to play smarmy, as any “Melrose” fan could tell you, so it’s not much of a stretch to envision him as Puck’s d-bag dad.
The episode where Calabro will appear is the 18th of the season, according to TVLine, with an April air date to be determined. In the same month, we meet the brother of Blaine (Darren Criss), played by the equally handsome Matt Bomer. And, yes, if it feels like we’re meeting a lot family members this season, it’s no accident; Ryan Murphy told The Hollywood Reporter that meeting the parents of the various kids and faculty at McKinley High was a big priority of theirs for the season, based on fan feedback.
