And with all 12 celebrities scoring 20 or more points out of 30 on Monday night with their debut dances, the usually grumpy judge was right!
Viewers weren’t prepared to see this season’s cast set such a high dance standard, but after the show, longtime DWTS pro Tony Dovolani told Xfinitytv he expected it.
“Look at the cast—accomplished performers, athletes. When you hire people who are Type A personalities, you’ve got to expect Type A performances. It’s probably the greatest premiere ‘Dancing with the Stars’ has ever had.”

“Extra” co-host Maria Menounos, who earned a 21, said of the cast, “When we were talking to the judges at the end, they were all like, ‘we’ve never had a show like this.’ I was so proud of everybody and it was so fun to watch everyone kill it. Why would you watch anything else?” Her partner, three-time DWTS winner Derek Hough, opined, “The standard has never been this high. It’s amazing!”
Last season’s dance winner, Karina Smirnoff, told reporters these celebrities really know how to shake it. “I think this season, more than any other, we do have a lot of people with experience, which is quite obvious,” she said.
And watch out! Former “Family Matters” star Jaleel White, who tied for the high score of 26 with singer Katherine Jenkins, thinks this cast can even do better! He claimed, “I saw some people who were holding back.”
