The remake of the classic family comedy “The Munsters” is starting to come together.
Comedian Eddie Izzard is set to star in and produce NBC’s “reinvention” of the series called “Mockingbird Lane.”
Izzard is the first actor cast in the high-profile project, written by Bryan Fuller (“Pushing Daisies”) and to be directed by Bryan Singer (“X-Men”). He’ll play Grandpa, the Munsters’ powerful patriarch, an ancient vampire who can shape-shift into creatures – and is quite the ladies man to boot, according to Deadline.
The site also reports the modern “Munsters’ will feature “striking visuals” similar to the colorful whimsy displayed in Fuller’s ABC drama “Pushing Daisies.”
“The Munsters” starred Fred Gwynne as Herman and Yvonne De Carlo as Lily in the comedy about an average American family — of monsters — that ran from 1964-1966 on CBS.
