William Levy, who excited the ladies more than any hunk in “Dancing with the Stars” history on Monday night, revealed backstage how he fled Cuba for a better life.
“Back in Cuba, I had no shoes,” he told reporters after receiving a strong score of 24 for his cha cha. “I was walking in the streets. And today to be in this position in my life, it’s really great! No complaints at all.”
The telenovela actor known as the “Latin Brad Pitt” inspired crazed cheers in the ballroom for showing off his cover model body during the dance. But his life was much different before he left Cuba in 1995.

“My stepfather was a political prisoner so this country gave him political asylum and I thank God every day of my life,” William said. “And we came in ’95 and I was lucky to be here and that’s it. Now, you’ve got to keep going. You’ve got to keep doing different things in life and enjoy it and appreciate everything that’s happening right now.”
William, who is best known in the U.S. for playing Jennifer Lopez’s love interest in her music video “I’m Into You,” was coy when asked if he is single and unattached.
“I have my couple right here,” he laughed, grabbing his dance pro, Cheryl Burke. “This is my partner, right here!”
