As the road comes to an end for the ladies of Wisteria Lane, it’s time to prepare ourselves for the two-hour series finale of “Desperate Housewives,” airing Sunday, May 13.
That means there are just five more new episodes (it’s in repeats on April 8, 15, 22) until the hit ABC dramedy signs off for good after eight tumultuous seasons, both on-screen and off.
Just as the very public, dramatic mistrial in ex-cast member Nicollette Sheridan’s wrongful termination suit drifts from the headlines, the new issue of Entertainment Weekly has “The Untold Story” of DH on its cover, with interviews from series creator Marc Cherry and the majors in the cast.
Among the juicy tidbits:
There was indeed a lot of “tension” on that infamous 2005 Vanity Fair cover shoot, in which Marcia Cross stormed off set when costar (rival?) Teri Hatcher got preferred treatment — after ABC had stipulated that Hatcher not receive first choice at wardrobe (she did) and not be in the center of the photo (she was).
“It was one of the most inhospitable environments I’ve been in for a photo shoot,” says Doug Savant.
In another veiled statement about how the costars feel about Hatcher, Eva Longoria recalls that her favorite memories from her time on the show include “sitting in my trailer with Marcia or Felicity and talking about life.” (But not Hatcher.)
As for their favorite moments, it seems way back in Season 1 was the highlight for several of them, you know, before the “disaster episodes” turned the cliffhangers into a mockery (Wisteria Lane has been struck by a tornado, a raging fire and even a plane crash) and revolving guest “Housewives” entered the picture (like Dana Delany, Drea de Matteo and Vanessa Williams). For Longoria, it was mowing the lawn in heels in the pilot, while Hatcher says, “I think Susan peaked at naked in the bushes.” (Meow!)
In other “Housewives” news, “Everybody Loves Raymond” star Doris Roberts is guest starring in an April episode as Gaby’s new boss.
How so? She’ll be a wealthy woman who hires Gaby to be her personal shopper. Since nobody really bosses Gaby around, that should be fun. Eva Longoria revealed the casting bit herself with a photo posted on Whosay.com writing, “Working with the amazing Doris Roberts today!”
