After seeing his ex Christie Brinkley break down about their ugly divorce battle while talking to Matt Lauer on “Today” on Tuesday, Peter Cook decided it was his high time to slam the 58-year-old “Chicago” Broadway star for what he considers blatant lies.

In an interview with “Today” co-host Savannah Guthrie on Wednesday, Peter was coolly defiant about his ex-wife, whom he divorced in 2008, and called her breakdown on the show full of “crocodile tears.”

“Ever since the separation, there has been a campaign to smear me,” the 53-year-old architect stated. “There is no Peter Cook press machine; I have no interest in the press. I am not a celebrity. You don’t hear about Peter Cook until Christie Brinkley dredges up something from the past to make herself relevant in the media again.”

Despite Christie’s public outcry that he hasn’t paid appropriate child support and has broken their confidentiality agreement, Peter claims the exact opposite. He asserts he’s not only paid his financial dues but that he’s also only spoken of issues that have arisen post-divorce, which is permissible under their agreement.

“I don’t think there’s any reason why I shouldn’t stand up for myself. I want peace for my family, I want peace for myself…and live without the Christie Brinkley shadow over me.”

Although the ex-couple both agree they want the best for their two teenage children, Sailor, 13, and Jack Paris, 17, it seems that their public bashing of each other has already caused damage: Apparently, Jack Paris, whom Peter adopted, isn’t on speaking terms with him.
