In not-at-all-shocking news, CBS announced today that Oprah Winfrey will appear on “CBS This Morning” on Monday to talk about her plans for the struggling OWN network.
Why is it not surprising? Because one of the co-anchors is Oprah’s official BFF, Gayle King. The only surprise is that they waited three whole months since the show’s revamp for Oprah to appear. But Oprah won’t be sitting with just Gayle. She’ll be at the anchor table (they don’t have a desk there) with King, Charlie Rose and Erica Hill to talk about what she’s been doing with OWN and what her life has been like since her syndicated talk show ended.
Despite how this looks, this isn’t a desperate, ratings-grabbing move by CBS that takes advantage of King’s relationship to The Big O; they’ve intended to have Oprah on at some point since day one. King even said so to the critics at the TCA press tour in January, mentioning that “We’re not stoopid with two Os. Wherever Oprah goes, she is a good guest. But the truth of the matter is we will have her on when there is some reason to have Oprah on.” Certainly all the news about the struggles of OWN is a pretty good reason, right?
