UPDATE: “There is no truth to this rumor on both Jason and Kristen’s behalf,” a spokesperson for both Kristen Wiig and Jason Sudeikis tells The New York Daily News.
There is no comment from Samberg’s rep.
Key players come and go on “Saturday Night Live” — a breeding ground for comedic talent until they make it to the Bigs — a film career or perhaps their own sitcom a la “SNL” alums Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.
So it’s no surprise there are persistent rumors that the time has come for three of “SNL’s” biggest current stars to “graduate” from the landmark late-night sketch show, with word that Kristen Wiig, Jason Sudeikis and Andy Samberg are quitting.
“Kristen Wiig, Andy Samberg and Jason Sudeikis are all leaving after the end of the season,” an insider says according to Us Weekly. “It will be a huge blow to the show. Without Andy’s video shorts and Kristen saving every skit, they’ll need help!”
But don’t fret just yet, as these departure reports are a bit premature.
“No decisions are made until the season is over” says a source, so an official decision won’t be made until summer.
It’s hardly unexpected, considering Wiig’s enormous success with the hit film “Bridesmaids” and Sudeikis’ steady work in comedies like “Hall Pass” and “Horrible Bosses.” Samberg is no slouch either with three films set for release, two of which costar fellow “SNL” alum Adam Sandler.
