Artist-of-the-moment Gotye is everywhere right now, and so is his hit single, “Somebody That I Used to Know,” which has been covered top TV shows such as “The Voice,” “American Idol” and “Glee” (and Gotye performed it himself last weekend on “Saturday Night Live“).
But that doesn’t mean the 31-year-old Australian singer is flattered by all the coverage. In fact, he wasn’t particularly impressed with “Glee’s” version of the song performed by Darren Criss and guest star Matt Bomer (“White Collar”) in the recent episode, “Big Brother.”
“They did such a faithful arrangement of the instrumentals but the vocals were that pop ‘Glee’ style, ultra-dry, sounded pretty tuned and the rock has no real sense,” Gotye told the Sunday Mail, adding, “like it’s playing to you from a cardboard box.”
“It made it sound dinky and wrong,” he also told the Herald Sun.
The singer may not have been a fan of the “Glee” cover, but it looks like “Glee” gave him a boost — the single bolted to the top of the Billboard charts after the “Glee” Gotye episode aired.
