Seattle Grace is tear-jerker central and it’s about to suffer another blow.
“A lot of our writers were crying, which is a very rare thing,” Rhimes said. “There’s some really shocking, horrible moments.”
While it will likely be someone not too major, our first guess logically goes to Derek or Meredith, since Patrick Dempsey and Ellen Pompeo’s contracts are up and there have been whispers for ages that they are ready to move on.
But Rhimes won’t comment on Mer and Der’s future, other than to say that the May 10 episode will feature the first look at the docs’ completed dream house, and that same episode sets up the finale drama with “a big case that takes a group of our people out of the hospital. It’s sort of the medical case of their lives.”
Writing the bombshell finale episode, which airs May 17, was “torture” for Rhimes, who does confirm in the story that there will be a ninth season.
“I’ve been sitting with my head in my hands for days,” she tells TV Guide. “I understand the choice I made, but it scares me how fans are going to react.”
Well, that doesn’t sound good.
“Grey’s Anatomy” airs Thursdays at 9/8c on ABC.
