NBC just announced that Will Ferrell is returning to “Saturday Night Live” to host the May 12 episode. It’s his first time back since hosting in 2009.

The musical guest will be Usher.

One of “SNL’s” most popular alumni, Ferrell has a host of memorable impersonations in his repertoire, including “Alex Trebek,” “James Lipton,” “Janet Reno” and “George W. Bush,” so place your bets now as to which characters might show up that night, which is the penultimate episode of the season. With the recent announcement that “Anchorman 2” is in the works, we’re also rooting for an appearance by that legend Ron Burgundy.

This marks Ferrell’s third stint as host since he retired as a regular not-ready-for-prime-time-player. Ferrell starred on “SNL” for seven years before departing for movie stardom in 2002.
