The ABC sitcom “Cougar Town” has a new home: It’s moving to TBS.
The cable network announced Thursday that it has ordered 15 new episodes for a fourth season of the Courteney Cox comedy to begin airing in early 2013. The deal also gives TBS the encore rights to air “Cougar Town’s” first three seasons (consisting of 61 episodes), which originally aired on ABC.
“Cougar Town is a smart, whimsical sitcom that draws its humor from likable, relatable characters” said Michael Wright, president, head of programming for TBS, TNT and Turner Classic Movies (TCM). “We are thrilled to have Cougar Town moving to the TBS neighborhood as the network continues to expand its slate of original comedy series.”
“Cougar Town” stars Courteney Cox, Josh Hopkins, Christa Miller, Brian Van Holt, and Busy Philipps, and premiered on ABC in 2009. It was co-created by executive producer/writer/director Bill Lawrence (“Scrubs,” “Spin City”), who’s been on an active campaign to save the show after it languished in the ratings following a long hiatus on ABC.
And it worked! The gang is no doubt toasting this news from monster wine glasses at this very moment. Cheers, Big Carl!
