Obama to Visit ‘The View,’ Conan Set for Letterman

President Barack Obama on 'The View' (ABC)

TV viewers can look for some thunderous talk-show appearances next week, both in daytime and late night.

Just days after making his historic decision to support same-sex marriage, President Obama will make an appearance on “The View” as part of the show’s “Red, White & View” campaign. The interview will be taped on Monday and air on Tuesday, May 15.

“We are honored to have President Obama visit ‘The View’ for the fourth time [his second time as sitting president] and we promise to let him get a word in edgewise,” said co-host Barbara Walters.

Meanwhile, late-night perks up with a notable guest when Conan O’Brien visits “The Late Show with David Letterman” next Thursday, May 17.

This will be O’Brien’s first appearance on Letterman in 13 years (he last sat down with Dave on Jan. 13, 1999).

Why are we looking forward to it? We’re anticipating potshots at Jay Leno, of course!

Both Conan and Letterman are entangled in late-night lore. O’Brien succeeded Dave as the host of “Late Night” in 1993 after Letterman bitterly departed NBC for his own “Late Show” on CBS after losing “The Tonight Show” hosting gig to Jay Leno. O’Brien, as it turns out, would inherit “The Tonight Show” throne 17 years later … only to have Jay Leno “steal” his old job back within just seven months after his primetime venture failed. In November 2010, “Conan” dusted himself off and headed to cabletown, where he currently hosts “Conan” on TBS. TBS, coincidentally, is becoming a TV savior of sorts, giving Conan new life (its sister station TNT rescued the cop drama “Southland”) and the just-announced news that TBS is taking over ABC’s struggling sitcom, “Cougar Town.”
